The exhibition "The European Green Belt: Border.Wilderness.Future"presents an international nature conservation project that aims to preserve the diverse landscapes and their natural and cultural heritage along the 12.000 km of the former Iron Curtain. the inhuman border of the past has willingly preserved wilderness areas and valuable refuges in many places right across Europe. The project thus offers the opportunity today of overcoming the divisions of the past. Transborder nature conservation is at the basis of numerous initiatives and projects aiming at the sustainable development of formerly disadvantaged border regions. This book which is publishes to accompany the exhibition, contains articles describing the diverse landscapes, natural environments and people - as presented by authors of the entire project region. It also includes background articles giving deeper insight into the "European Green Belt" initiative, and the regional development, environment education and research issues connected with it.
