High Level Invitational Seminar 24-25 May 2008 Stresa (I). Reframing the Future of the European Landscape,

To start of the EUROSCAPE2020 process a high level seminar was organised by Landscape Europe for key persons from national and European policy making on the one side and research on the other. It's objective was  to put the landscape issue on the European agenda. Central aim is to initiate a debate on an effective integration of the landscape issue at all governance levels, thus designing a road to a sustainable future for European landscapes. Results of the seminar are the Blueprint for EUROSCAPE 2020 and the Proceedings of the seminar.

Within LANDSCAPE EUROPE the landscape is seen as a flexible and multi-dimensional resource. Many disciplines need to meet in landscape research and this is also reflected in the way landscape research is organised in LANDSCAPE EUROPE.  Partners have agreed on the following  Common Research Programme.

Members of LANDSCAPE EUROPE have been collaborating in several projects often funded by the European Union.

The overall objective is to establish an enabling environment concerning education and training within the subjects covered by the LANDSCPE EUROPE network i.e. landscape research as per the definition above. This will include information dissemination, web forums, arranging conferences, workshops and seminars as well as concrete educational activities.

During the last years, the increasing significance of landscapes as a policy issue at the European level resulted in more information needs on the geographic distribution and typology of these landscapes. Policy implementation requires knowledge about the exact location, extension and characteristics of landscapes that receive policy interest.

Originally used in the business sector, a "clearing-house" is a service which facilitates and simplifies transactions among multiple parties.

The monitoring activities at LANDSCAPE EUROPE are divided in two different activities, the integrated assessment, and the monitoring itself, which is organised in the Pan European Forum for Countryside and Landscape Monitoring (ECOLAND).
