Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL),
Switzerl.
WSL is a federal research institute within the domain of the
Federal Institutes of Technology. WSL undertakes research into
the environment and sustainability. Its key areas are the
"use, management and protection of near-natural terrestrial
habitats" and the "management of natural hazards". With around
550 employees (450 scientists) it has distinguished strengths
and international reputation in its three research
departments, i.e. forest, landscape and natural hazards
including the snow and avalanche research. Research work
undertaken by WSL is targeted in particular at mountain
regions and at built up areas and their surroundings.
