Z_GIS is an interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence at the University of Salzburg. Founded 1988 within the Department of Geography, Z_GIS evolved into an interdepartmental advanced research and postgraduate education unit with worldwide ties to academia and industry.

Our areas of expertise cover GIS as a public infrastructure, GIScience in ecology and conservation, resource management, traffic / logistics and utilities as well as Internet GIS and dynamic visualisation.

Following our mission - to generate and to disseminate GI knowledge - we organise the annual AGIT symposium, offer UNIGIS distance education and conduct collaborative research projects.

Z_GIS is an acknowledged international leader in applied GIScience and continuing education for GIS professionals!
